Autumn 2003

Organic agriculture poses certain problems for the farmers, particularly in the area of weed control. Weed killers cannot be used and handweeding is time consuming and backbreaking.

The farm where Atlantic Aromatics organic Lavender oil is produced cultivates over 150 acres of Lavender at 3000 feet, on the Vaucluse Plateau in Provence. To keep down these weeds by hand would be very difficult. Using a system of movable electric fences the farmer puts his sheep to work weeding the field. Sheep prefer eating the weeds to the Lavender and hense they leave the crop alone, and sheep are prepared to work at a below minimum wage.

Vegetable oils

From the huge range of vegetable carrier oils on the market we supply the following:
Almond, organic Almond, Avocado, Light Coconut, Jojoba, Rosehip and Wheatgerm.

We choose this selection based on the following criteria:
Firstly, they have established uses in aromatherapy. Secondly, they have a reasonably long shelf life. Thirdly, they are sourced from suppliers who trade in large volumes of each oil so the stock is always fresh.

It is not possible for us to supply the many specialist vegetable oils people look for as we could not quarantee a reasonable shelf life.
